Personally I have experienced that if your mind is fit then you will get what you want plus giving everything you are to a particular field.
No matter you attended studies or not, but the effort you put to learn something will bring you up, you will be better than yesterday.
That why most of the things I do in very perfect way, are those I learnt before attending the classroom, i.e computer science etc.
Another side of the coin, development level of the country you are will tell you which way of making life good.
